TRINITY, N.C. (September 20, 2011) – On Saturday, September 24, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) will travel to Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway for the “32nd Annual Jackson 100.” Bobby Labonte Racing (BLR) can’t help but get excited when traveling to the quarter mile, dirt oval. The team’s track record has drivers Brad Neat, driver of the No. 41 Red Buck Cigars car, and Earl Pearson Jr., driver of the No. 44 Lucas Oil car, eyeing a return to victory lane.
BLR spent last week in Virginia competing in the “Verizon Wireless 50” at Winchester Speedway and the “USA 100” at Virginia Motor Speedway. Pearson left the Old Dominion with a fourth place finish at Winchester Speedway, while Neat took the checkers in eighth place. Pearson finished 23rd at Virginia Motor Speedway and Neat closed out the week with a 19th place run.
Pearson is looking to capture his first feature win of the season and Brownstown Speedway appears to be an ideal venue. Pearson’s record at the track speaks for itself. Since 2005, Pearson has never finished outside the top-10 in LOLMDS competition. “The Hurricane” averages a fourth place finish and has three feature wins (March 2006, March 2009, September 2009). Pearson’s most recent performance at Brownstown netted a third place finish in this year’s “Indiana Icebreaker.” He looks to add another win to his résumé this week.
“I can’t get enough of Brownstown Speedway,” Pearson said. “Bobby Labonte Racing has that track figured out. Every time we go there, we run really well. We had a solid race there earlier this season and have good notes to build on. It really fits my driving style and I know we can leave there with a trophy. I’ve got a few wins under my belt there and that’s always a confidence builder. I know this has potential to be a great weekend for us.”
“We had a really good race at Winchester (Speedway) last week. It was a nice top five run for us. If we can keep running in the top five, we’re going to collect a win. Hopefully Winchester was a sign of things to come for the rest of the season.”
Brad Neat has no shortage of impressive stats at Brownstown. He finished eighth in this year’s “Indiana Icebreaker.” He scored two 11th place finishes in 2010 at Brownstown and rallied to a fourth-place finish in the 2009 “Indiana Icebreaker.” Neat expects another strong performance this week.
“This is one of the biggest dirt track races in the Midwest,” Neat said. “It has a lot of history and tradition behind it and it would be a very special win for sure. I know this Red Buck Cigars team has all of the tools to get the job done.
“There are only a handful of races left this year and we’re looking to finish the season on a good note,” continued Neat. “It’s important for us to end the year with top-10s and contend for wins. We’ve been snake bitten lately, but this will be a good week for us to turn things around and get headed in the right direction.”
Following the “USA 100,” Pearson is 6th in the LOLMDS championship standings, 1300 points behind leader Jimmy Owens. Neat is in 7th place, 1370 points out of the lead.
